Carrie Whitmore is a senior mass communications and public relations student at York College of Pennsylvania. Upon graduating in May, 2015 she hopes to obtain a job in the sports field, specifically with an ice hockey team or NASCAR, either in journalism or public relations.

Growing up in Central Pennsylvania, the youngest of two children, Carrie was raised around sports and thus destined to work in sports. As an avid spots buff, she has a special passion for hockey, motorsports, and baseball.

Experience is crucial to getting into this profession, and Carrie is continually adding experience to her resume. She is currently interning at the Harrisburg City Islanders USL Pro soccer team. She is serving her time as a media relations intern, where she is responsible for writing press releases, answering office phone calls, managing the Islanders social media accounts, and primarily Facebook and Twitter. Carrie is also responsible for managing media for the City Islanders by contacting various local media outlets and trying to get air time for the team. In addition to her media relations duties, Carrie has also been given separate duties to produce and direct videos of the City Islanders to put on YouTube, Vimeo, and other video sharing websites. She is constantly in contact with the team President, Head Coach, and players to discuss press released, media inquiries, and possible video pitches.

On the side, Carrie is a NASCAR Nationwide Series reporter for Hardcore Race Fans, where she writes weekly articles on the series, that are posted to the website following a race. She has been able to gain credentials through NASCAR and has attended various events, where she has sharpened her skills in dealing with the opposite side of media relations and interviewing in a fast paced and professional environment.

In addition to the current positions she holds, Carrie also has a experience that has spanned throughout her time in college. Her background includes working for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, and WHTM abc27.

In her free time Carrie is a diehard hockey, baseball, and NASCAR fan, and roots for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hershey Bears, Baltimore Orioles, and Brad Keselowski any chance she can. Also a fan of the TV show, Survivor, Carrie is determined to compete on the show in the future and become the Soul Survivor.

Aspiring to work in a male-dominated profession, Carrie is unafraid to take on a challenge and prove she has what it takes in anything she sets her mind to.
